Townsville Saints Squads Ready to Shake Up the Competition

Townsville Saints are once again gearing up to head south, as they assemble a formidable mix of experience, elite talent, and promising young players ahead of this weekends Queensland Touch Football State Cup.

With several seasoned players returning to the representative level after a hiatus, the team's roster promises a blend of skills and a fresh perspective that could spell success.

Saints Premier Mixed and Senior Mixed teams are bracing for an intriguing challenge, with both teams featuring former highly credential Men's and Women's Open players, now focused on adapting to playing mixed-gendered touch football at an elite level.

Both team's ambition is clear – they aim to embrace the Townsville style of play, with the hope of surprising some of the top teams in the competition. One of the undeniable strengths of the teams are their roster of female players with a wealth of experience at regional and state level. These athletes have consistently demonstrated their prowess on the field, and their contributions are expected to be a key factor in the team's performance at the event.

Leading the charge for the Mixed teams are two standout players who will undoubtedly play pivotal roles in shaping the team's fortunes. Jared Townson (Premier Mixed) and Michael Law (Senior Mixed), both seasoned campaigners, will provide the leadership and guidance needed to navigate the challenging season.

Townson, with his experience and footballing acumen, is expected to be the driving force behind the team's tactical approach. His ability to read the game and make key decisions under pressure is invaluable, and he is anticipated to be a linchpin in the quest for success.

Law, another stalwart of the game, brings a wealth of experience to the team. His leadership qualities, combined with his ability to execute under pressure, make him a crucial asset on the field. Law’s performance is expected to inspire his teammates and ensure that the Townsville remain competitive against the top-tier opposition.

Alongside both teams at the State Cup will be Saints Men's Under 20's and Men's Under 40's, both driven by now-seasoned campaigner Rhys Bevan.

Bevan, alongside manager Cherrie Pierce, has been instrumental in the re-establishment of the boys representative pathway, steering Townsville's Under 18 Boys programme through to this July's QLD Junior State Cup, then taking the reigns of the Saints Under 20's Men's side, which features many returning 18 Boys players.

Townsville's Saints teams are clearly optimistic about the challenges that lie ahead. With their diverse squads, blend of old heads and young talents, and a commitment to the northern style of touch footy, they are poised to make a significant impact at this week's Queensland State Cup.

The Townsville Touch Football community can look forward to an exciting competition filled with potential and promise. The collective efforts of this multifaceted squad, led by the likes of Jared Townson and Michael Law, are sure to captivate the audience and potentially upset the balance in the event. Stay tuned for the action, as the four Townsville teams tap off over the weekend of the 24th to 26th November on Queensland's Gold Coast.
