The persistent heavy downpour over the past few days has led to the unfortunate but necessary decision to call off this weekend's round of matches.
Glen Wilson, Townsville Touch Football (TTF) President, expressed his disappointment about the impact of the weather on the tournament, but says player saftey will always be the highest priority.
"It's very disappointing that we had to cancel games on Sunday, but with that much rain falling on the already wet fields we just can't take the risk."
"The safety of our players and referees is more important than anything, so we had to make the tough call."
The TTF Board is now reviewing the possibility of rescheduling matches, with further discussion to occur soon with clubs representatives to figure out the best approach of either incorporating the washed out games into the existing schedule or to scrap the round entirely.
This round of cancellations adds to the already postponed first rounds of TTF's Monday Mixed and Tuesday Over 30's competitions, which were both scheduled to get underway last week.
"The weather is one thing we just have no control over, but we'll do our best to get games on the fields when we can."
A decision on the postponed first rounds of the Monday Mixed and Tuesday Over 30's competitions, no due to get underway this week, will be made by 5pm each day in accordance with TTF's Extreme Weather Guidelines.
