Redskins and Brothers Flip the Script in First Grade Shake-Up

The 2025 Colliers Shield produced its biggest shake-up yet in Round 5, with two major upsets sending ripples through the First Grade divisions.

Brothers delivered a statement in Women’s First Grade, handing Rum Runners their first loss in a First Grade fixture since before 2020 — a result that could derail the club’s pursuit of a tenth consecutive premiership.

Played under lights in a rescheduled midweek clash, Brothers came out firing and didn’t let up, storming to a 7–4 win to claim top spot on the ladder and remain undefeated after five rounds.

Rum Runners, who entered the season as the benchmark, still sit second with three wins and a bye, but the result has cracked the door open for the chasing pack.

Redskins added to the weekend’s drama with a thrilling 5–4 victory over previously unbeaten Brothers in Men’s First Grade.

The win marks Redskins’ fourth of the season and throws the title race wide open, with five rounds in the books and the ladder beginning to tighten.

Sharks bounced back strongly in their clash with Frogs, sealing their second win of the year with a high-energy 7–5 performance.

Frogs, who managed just two tries in Round 4, looked far sharper in attack and will take confidence from their five-try effort despite falling short.

In the other Women’s First Grade fixtures, Frogs enjoyed the bye and hold third place on the ladder, while Sharks and Redskins fought out a tense 5-all draw.

Sharks’ return to the top flight continues to impress, with steady improvement each week, while Redskins will be keen to turn narrow results into wins as the season progresses.

Looking ahead to Round 6, Men’s First Grade fans are in for a blockbuster as Brothers meet Sharks at 5pm this Sunday in what’s shaping up as a crucial test for both sides.

Redskins will kick off the afternoon against Frogs, looking to ride the momentum of their upset win and maintain pressure on the ladder leaders.

In W1, the spotlight returns to Brothers as they face Sharks at 4pm, with Frogs and Redskins rounding out the day in a clash that could shape the battle for third place.

With the season now a third of the way through, every match is beginning to matter — and if Round 5 taught us anything, it’s that nothing in 2025 is going to plan.
