Referees Named for Season’s Biggest Matches

The Townsville Touch Referees Association has confirmed the referee appointments for Saturday’s 2026 Colliers Shield Grand Finals, with several of the region’s leading officials set to take charge of the season’s biggest matches.

The appointments were announced following Friday night’s TTRA Awards Dinner, where referees were recognised for their performances, development and achievements throughout the year.

Lachlan Carey, Jack Driehuis and Michael Littlefield will referee the Men’s 1st Grade Grand Final between Brothers and Redskins at 5:10 pm.

Driehuis will make his Men’s 1st Grade Grand Final debut, capping off an outstanding year in which he earned his National Referee grading at the National Touch League Championships in March and was appointed to the Men’s match at the ANZAC Day Challenge. He was also named TTRA’s Leading Male Youth Referee for the second year running.

Carey will make his seventh consecutive appearance in the Men’s 1st Grade decider and was also recognised at the Awards Dinner as TTRA’s Leading Male Referee.

Littlefield will referee his third consecutive Men’s 1st Grade Grand Final and his fourth overall.

The Women’s 1st Grade Grand Final between Brothers and Sharks will be controlled by Denise Weier, Abbey Snell and Ella Henningsen.

Weier will referee her third consecutive Women’s 1st Grade Grand Final and her seventh overall, adding to the two Men’s 1st Grade Grand Finals she has also officiated. She was recognised on Friday night as TTRA’s Leading Female Referee.

Henningsen returns for her second Women’s 1st Grade Grand Final after making her debut in the match last year, while Snell will make her first Women’s 1st Grade Grand Final appearance after a standout season in which she was named Leading Female Youth Referee and received the prestigious Glen Wilson Award for Most Improved Referee.

The remaining Grand Final appointments provide opportunities for experienced referees and emerging officials across all levels.

Max Hoover, who was named Leading Male Junior Referee, will referee the Men’s 2nd Grade Grand Final alongside Dylan Carey and Kerrod Hall.

Leading Female Junior Referee Chloe Fitzgerald has been appointed to the Men’s 4th Grade Grand Final alongside Katrina Hughes and Lachlan Owen.

Most Promising Male Referee Jasper Lyons will officiate the Women’s 4th Grade Grand Final with Wade Inman and Cody Parsloe.

The 11 Grand Finals will be played at Queens Park on Saturday, 1 August, beginning at 2:00 pm.
